The name Ushuaia means bay that penetrates to the East, a description true to its name. This name comes from the Yámana Language, whom were the first inhabitants on the coast of the Beagle Channel. One cannot imagine Ushuaia without the Prison, that being out of the prison, the convicts were used in the construction of the streets, bridges and buildings. It was the workshops such as that of printer, photography, tailor, carpentry and medical services that took care of the immediate necessities of the population, whom with luck were refurbished with supplies that arrived on boats once a month. To facilitate the construction and exploitation of the forests, the Prisoner's Train was built, with an extension of 25km along Maipu avenue passing mount Susana and dividing into two tracks towards what is today the national park. The prison closed in 1947 by order of the national government. A unique landscape, Ushuaia offers endless possibilities and activities.
