Visit the southernmost city in the World

USHUAIA.
The southernmost city in the World, it offers a unique combination of the coast, the forest, the mountains and glaciers which surprises and delights all those who visit. Due to its strategic location, it is the most natural entrance point to Antarctica . Its port in actuality being what sets record breaking numbers of arrivals by cruise ship passengers from all ports in Argentina . The name Ushuaia means bay that penetrates to the East, a description true to its name. This name comes from the Yámana Language, whom were the first inhabitants on the coast of the Beagle Channel. The history of Ushuaia started to develop with the arrival in 1869, by the Anglican missionary Stirling , whom decided to evangelize the aborigines. Without a doubt it was the decision to install a penal colony in this region that helped the growth of Ushuaia. To facilitate the construction and exploitation of the forests, the Prisoner's Train was built, with an extension of 25km. The prison closed in 1947 by order of the governor. Ushuaia offers endless possibilities and activities. In summer, trekking, horse back riding, sport fishing and mountain biking allow one to traverse unexplored incredible scenery. In winter, the cold temperatures invite one to downhill and cross country ski. Land of legends and adventures, Ushuaia is inevitable for those who desire to arrive to the end of the map and the start of an adventure. Without a doubt however, the decision by then President Roca to install a penal colony in the region is what help Ushuaia develop and grow. One cannot imagine Ushuaia without the Prison, that being out of the prison, the convicts were used in the construction of the streets, bridges and buildings. It was the workshops such as that of printer, photography, tailor, carpentry and medical services that took care of the immediate necessities of the population, whom with luck were refurbished with supplies that arrived on boats once a month. To facilitate the construction and exploitation of the forests, the Prisoner's Train was built, with an extension of 25km along Maipu avenue passing mount Susana and dividing into two tracks towards what is today the national park.
